It has been announced that the heavy equipment manufacturer Shacman will be setting up an assembly plant in the Colon Free Zone.

The information was provided by the Chamber of Commerce of Colón, whose representatives detailed that in addition to installing the heavy equipment assembly plant, they foresee accessing other markets in the region from Panama.
Aníbal Vallarino, executive director of Shacman Panama, explained to Elcapitalfinanciero.com that "...These pieces of heavy equipment were designed to offer a higher load capacity than much of the equipment available in this sector and at a much more accessible price, but without sacrificing quality, as they have Cummings engines, Eaton transmissions and Mac suspension, brands recognized at a global level."
Xie Yan, Shacman representative for Latin America and the Caribbean, "... noted that the company's factory is located in the northwestern city of Xi'an and has more than 40 years experience."
Orient International plans to set up a distribution center in the Colon Free Zone, in which plants, generators and other electrical equipment will be assembled.
In a statement issued by the Colon Free Zone (ZLC by its initials in Spanish), Zhang Shijun, Managing Director of Shangatex Latin America, explained that the following months are key for a human team from the company Orient International (Holding) Co., Ltd.
The Mexican company Zetrak has inaugurated a plant in Amatitlán, department of Guatemala, for the manufacture of electrical distribution and power transformers.
Executives from Zetrak Guatemala stated that the "...objective of the new production plant, which will have all of the technical-commercial support of Zetrak Mexico, is to provide a more personalized service and a prompt response for all customers in Central America."
The Ecuadorian firm Carrocerías Imce is once again considering investing in an assembly plant for bus chasis near Puerto Cortés.
The company Carrocerías Imce has not yet determined the amount of the potential investment, but confirmed they would need a plot of land measuring 4,000 square meters in order to install an assembly plant near the port which gives them maritime transport facilities.
Executives at Varma Carrocerías are analyzing the feasibility of operating an automotive assembly plant in the south of the country.
The company has agreements with Mercedes Benz, Hino, International and Volkswagen for assembling those brands of cars.
