Chinese Consortium to Design Bridge Over Canal

At a price of $4.6 million the consortium China Communications Construction Company / Louis Berger Group will design the third bridge over the Panama Canal.

The consortium will have a period of approximately 11 months to complete the design. The tender for construction could be carried out between June and July 2012.

Three Pre-Qualified to Bid in Bridge Tender

The Consortia Odebrecht - Hyundai Joint Venture, Acciona Infrastructures -Tradeco, and France's Vinci Construction Grands Projets, have been accepted by the ACP to take part in the tender for the construction of a bridge over the Canal in the Atlantic.

"Through a press release, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) reported that the Spanish-Mexican consortium "Acciona Infrastructures-Tradeco" and the Brazilian-South Korean "Odebrecht-Hyundai joint venture" along with the French company "Vinci Construction Grands Projets" qualified following analysis of their technical criteria, experience and financial capacity", reported Panamaamerica.com.

Third Bridge Over Canal to be Tendered in August

With 4 lanes, and measuring 4.6 kilometers long and 75 meters high, the bridge will cost about $280 million and its construction will take 32 months.

The tender for the third bridge, located on the Atlantic side, will take place in August, according to the outgoing administrator of the Panama Canal, Alberto Alemán Zubieta.

ACP Makes Progress with Bridge Construction in Colon

The Panama Canal Authority has taken another step towards building a new bridge over the Atlantic after complying with the public consultation of the Environmental Impact Study, category III.

A press release of the Panama Canal Authority states that:

“A forum was held in the gymnasium of La Salle de Colón school in the town of Margarita, Cristóbal township, pursuant to Executive Decree 123 of August 14, 2009.

Bids Submitted for Canal Bridge Design

The consortium China Communications Construction Company / Louis Berger Group submitted the lowest bid ($4.6 million) for the final design of the bridge over the Atlantic.

Also participating in the bidding were TYPSA Principia ($ 4.9 million), URS Holdings ($ 6.1million), Columbus JVB Bridge ($ 7.2 million), ARUPB ($ 8.5 million) and Ty Lin International ($ 9.6 million).
