China displays products in Costa Rica

A total of 28 Chinese companies will put their products on display in Costa Rica from September 11-14.

Meanwhile, some 300 government officials and business leaders from Central America will take part in a forum along with Chinese representatives, organizers of the event reported on Monday.
"The purpose of the expo is to contribute to the promotion and economic and commercial cooperation between the People's Republic of China and Costa Rica," said Dong Jiayang, director of the Chinese delegation.

Purchases and Sales of Paper and Cardboard in Central America

In 2015 El Salvador led paper and cardboard exports in the region, with $263 million sold, followed by Guatemala, which exported $138 million and thirdly Honduras, with $112 million.

Figures for the Paper and Cardboard Market in Central America, from the Commercial Intelligence unit at CentralAmericaData.com, show that in 2015 the countries that make up Central America exported a combined total of 457,000 tons of paper, cardboard, and derivative products, equivalent to $693 million.

Exports from the region registered a FOB value of U.S. $2.478 billion, an increase of 5.7% compared to the $2.344 billion exported during the same month last year.

According to data from Banguat, exports fell by 1.2% and imports by 24.7% when compared to same period in 2008.

In March 2009, total exports were $1.855 billion, and the total amount was $ 2.63 billion.

Leonel Díaz wrote in Prensalibre.com: "According to Banguat, the main export products (bananas, coffee, sugar and cardamom) increased by 28.2%, but they were outweighed by a decline of US $36.9 million (-6.8%) in exports to Central America and the rest of the world."

Guatemala looks towards Asia

Mario Marroquin, executive director of the Invest state office in Guatemala, explained that even though the zone has a great potential for Guatemalan products, we should focus on the four countries with which we currently have the greatest flow of trade and investments.
