Chileans Interested in Nicaragua Products

A trade mission managed to secure Nicaraguan purchase intentions worth $7.8 million in the South American country in the following sectors: meat, shoes, rum, sugar and pottery.

"Among the Nicaraguan products that are in the greatest demand in Chile are beef, rum, footwear, ceramics, sugar and other agro products, as well as ‘rosquillas de maíz ‘ (corn chips or pretzels) for which negotiations are starting," reported the Center for Exports and Investments (CIS) according to

The IEC said that they managed to agree on purchase intentions worth $7.8 million.

Alfredo Marin, president of Cadin (Chamber of Industry of Nicaragua) said that by the end of the year they are scheduled to begin marketing meat with the Andean country.

Nicaraguan Trade Mission to Chile

A total of 17 Nicaraguan entrepreneurs and producers will take part in a trade mission to visit the Andean country from 16th to 19th April.

Restrictions Hit Cattle Farmers in Nicaragua

Restrictions by Honduras, Guatemala and Panama on Nicaraguan beef exports have caused a reduction in revenues of about $60 million for exporters, who are demanding reciprocal measures to those countries.

Since 2010, Nicaraguan farmers have failed to collect about $60 million in profit due to the restrictions imposed by the authorities of Honduras, Panama and Guatemala on importing meat from Nicaragua, said industry leaders in the El Nuevo Diario.

Nicaragua Ratifies FTA with Chile

Dispute over EU Meat Quota Allocation

The proposal to divide up the 9,500 ton EU allocation equally is rejected by Nicaragua.

Onel Pérez, president of CANICARNE (Nicaraguan association of beef producers), commented that 70% of meat exported from Central America comes from Nicaragua.

Pérez and Ronald Blandón, director of Nicaraguan cattle farming association, CONAGAN, will travel to Honduras to discuss the distribution of the quota with other Central American businessmen.
