Russian Certification of Costa Rican Meat and Dairy Products

An official delegation is inspecting phytosanitary conditions in the Central American country in order to allow imports of beef, leather and milk powder.

A Statement from the Ministry of Agriculture reads:

Costa Rica continues its attempts to open up new export markets for products of animal origin, by receiving Russian health authorities who are conducting an audit visit which runs from May 22 until June 1.

The opening meeting was held on Tuesday at the SENASA facilities and attended by officials from COMEX and PROCOMER, SENASA official personnel and representatives of the export sector.

The Russian delegation LANASEVE will audit the official laboratory, as well as slaughterhouses such as GICO, el Arreo, Montecillos, Visión Comercial, farms for breeding and fattening cattle, and Dos Pinos in regards to their milk powder and refrigeration facilities in order to evaluate official controls, regulations and protocols for epidemiological surveillance, disease reporting systems, the country’s animal health status, control of drug residues, food safety in processing plants, systems for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), all this as part of the procedure to start exports to that nation.

Costa Rica: Permits Being Processed for Exports to Russia

Five food exporters are taking advantage of export quotas given by the World Trade Organization to sell their products in Russia.

La Cooperativa de Leche Dos Pinos and Ganaderos Industriales de Costa Rica are two companies who already have sanitation permits to start exporting to Russia and three others are completing the paperwork with the National Animal Health Service (SENASA).

Russian Enables Beef Imports from Costa Rica

The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control of Russia has also enabled a Costa Rican company to export of milk powder to that country.

The National Animal Health Service of Costa Rica (SENASA) reported that two Costa Rican companies have been authorized to sell beef and milk powder in Russia: Ganaderos Industriales de Costa Rica S.A. and the Cooperative of Milk Producers Dos Pinos RL
