Ceramic Products: Growing Business in Central America

In the first half of 2017, Central American countries imported $193 million worth of ceramic products, 5% more than the purchases in the same period in 2016.

Imports by country 
In the first half of 2017, the main importer of ceramic products in Central America was Costa Rica with $45 million, followed by Guatemala with $39 million, Panama with $38 million, Honduras with $28 million, El Salvador with $24 million and Nicaragua with $21 million.

Variation of regional imports 
Between the first semester of 2016 and the same period in 2017 the value imported into the region grew by 5%, increasing from $184 million to $194 million.

Purchases from Spain grew by 40%, rising from $18 million in the first half of last year, to $23 million in the same period in 2017.

Origin of imports 
From January to June 2017, 25% of the value imported into the region came from China, 15% from Mexico, 12% from Spain and 11% from Brazil.

Spain is the country of origin of Central American imports that has grown the most, as in the first half of 2012 it represented 7% of the total value purchased, and for the same period in 2017 this figure rose to 12%.

During the first half of the year, Central America totaled $177 million in imports of ceramic products, and purchases from Spain rose 11% over the same period in 2017.

September 2018

In the first quarter of the year Central America imported $90 million worth of ceramic products, and purchases from the European country grew by 3% compared to the same period in 2017.
