Central American Sausage Trade Up 6%

In 2016, the countries in the region sold 29 thousand tons of sausages, registering a 6% increase over 2015.

Main importers
Among the main buyers in the region are Avícola Salvadoreña, Sigma Alimentos, Cargill and Productos Cárnicos. Altogether they made up approximately 35% of the total amount purchased by the Central American countries annually.

The volume traded rose by 6%, going from 27,276 tons in 2015 to 28,931 tons in 2016.

Intraregional exports by country 
In 2016 the largest seller of sausages in the region was Guatemala, with $30 million, followed by Costa Rica and Panama, with $16 million each, El Salvador with $3 million, Honduras with $600 thousand, and Nicaragua with $400,000. 

Main intraregional importer 
In 2016 Nicaragua was the main purchaser of sausages, importing $29 million worth, of which $11 million was bought from Costa Rica, $11 million from Panama, $6 million from Guatemala and $1 million from Honduras.

Processed Meat Market in Central America

February 2017

Between January and September 2016, Central American countries together imported $74 million in sausages and similar meat products, at an average price of between $2.37 and $2.85 per kilo.

Foreign Trade of Processed Meat in Central America

November 2016

In 2015 the region as a whole imported $96 million worth of processed meat, led by El Salvador, which imported $25 million, followed by Guatemala with $22 million, and Honduras, with $16 million.
