Honduras, Main Seller
In the first nine months of 2020 the main exporter of coffee in Central America was Honduras, with $827 million, followed by Guatemala, with $610 million, Nicaragua, with $413 million, Costa Rica, with $307 million, El Salvador, with $104 million and Panama with $21 million.

For the months in question, Costa Rica's foreign sales increased 16% in year-on-year terms.

Nicaragua and Guatemala both reduced their exports by 1%, El Salvador reduced its sales by 2%, Honduran sales fell by 5% and Panamanian sales by 12%.

Variation in Regional Exports
Between January and September 2019 and the same period in 2020, the value exported from the region decreased 1%, going from $2,308 million to $2,288 million.

The year-on-year decline recorded in sales for the period under analysis is partly explained by the performance of exports to the U.S., which decreased from $834 million to $808 million.

Export Prices Up
In recent months, the average price of regional coffee exports has registered a clear upward trend, rising from $2.44 per kilo in November 2019 to $3.31 in September 2020.

Destination of Exports
From January to September last year, 35% of the value exported from Central America was destined for the USA, 14% for Germany, 10% for Belgium, 5% for Japan, 5% for Canada and 5% for Italy.
