In 2016, exports of pharmaceutical products from Central America to the Dominican Republic grew by 17% compared to 2015. This increase was such that this line of sales has become the most important in terms of value sold.

In 2016, Central American countries sold $48 million worth of pharmaceutical products to the Dominican Republic, of which $31 million were exported from Costa Rica, $12 million from Guatemala, $5 million from El Salvador and $1 million from Nicaragua.

The regional export of plastic and its manufactures to the Dominican Republic was the second most important in value, with $42 million, of which $24 million worth was exported from Costa Rica, $16 million from El Salvador and $2 million from Guatemala.

The third product by export value was food preparations, reaching sales of $39 million in 2016, registering a 12% increase compared to the $35 million exported in 2015. In 2016, Costa Rica was the main seller of food preparations, exporting $36 million worth, followed by Guatemala, with $2 million, and Honduras with $1 million.

Among the main export products from Central America to the Dominican Republic are sugar and confectionery with $28 million, electric cables with $22 million, glass and its manufactures with $19 million, tobacco, with $18 million, fruit juices with $18 million, milk and dairy products with $17 million, and coffee, with $15 million.
