Central America: Construction Projects to Be Built in 2018

A wastewater treatment system in Panama, apartment towers in Guatemala and an education center in Costa Rica are some of the projects planned for the coming months in the region.

The interactive platform "Construction in Central America", compiled by the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData, includes an up to date list of public and private construction projects for which environmental impact studies (EIA) were submitted to the respective institutions of each country in October 2017.

Details of some projects:

The National Aqueduct and Sewer Institute of Panama (Instituto de Acueducto y Alcantarillados Nacionales de Panamá) submitted an EIA to build a new potable water supply system in the district of Santa Rosa, province of Colon, the project includes a raw water intake, adduction line, possible intermediate pumping, treatment plant and remodeling of the plant's administrative building. The investment amount for the project called "Study, design, construction and operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant in Sabanitas", is estimated at $108 million.

Ambiente Verde, S.A. submitted an EIA to build a residential complex in zone 10 of Guatemala City with two apartment towers with six levels each. The project called "Apartamentos Buenos Aires" will have a total of 48 apartments, a module with stairs and elevators, circulation areas, common amenities and parking for 108 vehicles. According to the study, approximately $14 million will be invested in the project.

Banco Nacional de Costa Rica submitted an EIA to build, in the district of San Rafael, province of San José, an educational building which will include an administrative area, kitchen, arts workshop, classrooms, library, cellar and teacher's room. According to the document, the project is called "Centro Educativo Escuelas Las Nubes y Liceo de Cascajal" and the investment amount is $7 million.
