Central America: Vegetable Exports Up 10%

From January to September 2017, countries in the region exported $114 million worth of fresh and chilled vegetables, 10% more than in the same period in 2016.

Exports by country 

In the first nine months of 2017 the main exporter continues to be Honduras, with $45 million, followed by Guatemala, with $38 million, Costa Rica, with $22 million, Nicaragua with $6 million, El Salvador, with $2 million and Panama with $1 million.

Variation of exports  
Between January and September of the years 2016 and 2017 the export volume of vegetables registered an increase of 10%, rising from 140 thousand tons in 2016 to 146 thousand tons in 2017.

In the periods in question, the export value also registered a positive variation, rising from $104 million in 2016 to $114 million in 2017.

From January to September of the years between 2015 and 2017, the value of regional sales abroad has grown steadily to an annual average of 6%.  

Price of exports
Between January 2012 and September 2017, the average price of a kilo of exports of fresh and chilled vegetables has seen cyclical behavior, with maximum prices in the months of December and November of each year, and minimum values in the months of July to september.

The Palm Oil Business in Central America
