Costa Rica to host most important tourism fair in Central America
• 115 European wholesalers, about 180 Central Americans sellers and more than 30 international media will be attending the event.
The gaze of the Old Continent will be set firmly on our country on the 9th and 10th of October, when Costa Rica will host the most important tourism fair in the region, the Central America Travel Market CATM 2014.
Wilhelm von Breymann, Minister of Tourism, said that the Costa Rican Tourism Institute took on the challenge of organizing the tenth edition of the fair, which without doubt represents an important showcase for the promotion and positioning of the country as a sustainable tourist destination.
Over thirty wholesale companies from the United States will participate in business roundtables with local operators on October 23rd and 24th in the capital.
From a statement issued by the Ministry of Tourism of El Salvador (MITUR):
Over 30 wholesalers from the United States, will be in the country for the second edition of the El Salvador Travel Market 2014 (ESTM2014), which starts on Thursday 23 October and which includes business meetings in a hotel in the capital.
After the cancelation by Costa Rica of the traditional regional tourism event CATM, El Salvador has announced that in September it will be organizing a fair to promote itself as a tourist destination.
"This fair is El Salvador's response to the regional impasse that was experienced with the traditional Central America Travel Market (CATM), after Costa Rica decided not to host this fair, the most important on the isthmus, leaving each country to promote itself individually and not as an integrated destination", reported Elmundo.com.sv .
From 5 to 7 December 2012 the 18th interactive edition of the fair will take place in Panama in which tour operators from Central American and the Caribbean meet with buyers from Europe and the U.S.
MITM is a two-day interactive exhibition of, which is now 15 years old, providing market-oriented incentives, meetings and events, where tourism companies and travel agencies from the Americas and the Caribbean meet, in the form of pre-arranged individual appointments, with buyers from Europe and the U.S. to organize and set up incentives trips, meetings, conferences, congresses and events. Buyers are invited to participate in MITM after a rigorous selection process.
3.762 business meetings between wholesalers and businessmen in the region took place.
The event featured participation of 158 wholesalers and tour operators from 41 countries, 155 exhibitors from the region and 91 international media.
Laprensagrafica.com published, "This year, seven out of 10 participants attended the fair for the first time, this will open the doors to new business contacts, said Roberto Robles, director of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT). Next year's fair will take place in Panama."
