Central America: Tractor Market Grows 19%

In the first semester of 2017, Central American countries imported $92 million worth of tractors, 19% more than was purchased during the same period in 2016.

Imports by country 
In the first half of 2017, the main importer of tractors in Central America was Costa Rica with $39 million, followed by Guatemala, with $20 million, Honduras, with $10 million, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Panama with $8 million each.

Variation of regional imports 
Between the first semester of 2016 and the same period in 2017 the value imported into the region grew by 19%, increasing from $78 million to $92 million.

Purchases from Brazil grew by 26%, going from $7 million in the first semester of last year, to $9 million in the same period in 2017.

Origin of imports 
From January to June 2017, 38% of the value imported into the region came from the USA, 18% from China, 17% from Mexico and 10% from Brazil. 

Mexico is the country of origin of Central American imports that has declined the most, as in the first semester of 2012 it represented 22% of the total value purchased, and in the same period of 2017 this figure fell to 17%.

Tractors: Mexico Purchases Up 24%

In the first quarter of the year, Central American countries bought $39 million worth of tractors, and imports from Mexico grew by 24% compared to the same period in 2017.
