Central America Takes Part in Trade Show in Taiwan

Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua and El Salvador are being represented at the International Fair for Coffee, Tea and Spirits, being held in Taipei.

From today, November 25th to the 28th, a group of young business people will be promoting coffee, rum and cigars, with the aim of increasing exports to that country.

According to an article in Reuters: "Consumption and import of coffee has experienced a sharp rise in Taiwan, rising from $35 million spent in 2004 to $69 million in 2009, said organizers of the fair.

Cigars and liqueurs are also products on the rise in Taiwan, with sales of 716.7 million liters of liquor on the island in 2010, according to the Taiwanese Ministry of Finance."

In Taiwan Nicaraguan businessmen closed deals on meat, coffee, seafood and other products, worth a total of $14.2 million.

According to the ambassador of Taiwan in Nicaragua, Y.W. Hsing, during the fair, which was held in June, Nicaraguan food products received more than 120 visits."Their products had a very satisfactory reception with our consumers," he said.
