Central America Purchases More Microwave Ovens

From January to June 2019, companies in Central American countries imported microwave ovens for $17 million, which is 8% more than the amount reported for the same period in 2018.

Costa Rica and Guatemala, Main Importers
In the first half of 2019, the main buyers in the region were Guatemala and Costa Rica with $5 million each, Honduras with $3 million, Panama with $2 million, El Salvador with $1.7 million and Nicaragua with $700,000.

Regional Business Upwards
Between the first half of 2018 and the same period in 2019, the value of microwave ovens imported into Central America increased by 8%, from $16.1 million to $17.4 million.

China and the United States, the Most Important Suppliers
Last year 74% of the value imported into the region came from China, 7% from the USA, 7% from Malaysia and 1% from Mexico.

Malaysia is the market that has grown the most in the last seven years, representing 4% of total purchases in Central America in 2012 and 7% in 2019.

In 2016 the countries in region imported $167 million worth of appliances, 7% less than in the previous year, and 50% of the products came from China.
