Variation of regional imports
Between the first semester of 2016 and the same period in 2017 the value of these goods imported into the region decreased by 12%, falling from $199 million to $174 million. The fall is mainly explained by the decrease registered in the months from February to April 2017, a period in which monthly regional imports ranged between $20 million and $25 million.

Despite the general decline, purchases from the US grew by 23%, going from $6 million in the first semester of 2016, to $7.5 million in the same period in 2017.

Imports by country
In the first half of 2017, the main importer in the region was Guatemala, with $68 million, followed by Costa Rica, with $34 million, Honduras, with $29 million, Nicaragua with $22 million, El Salvador with $16 million and Panama, with $4 million.

Origin of imports
From January to June 2017, 52% of the value imported from Central America came from China, 26% from India, 4% from the US, 3% from Japan and 2% from Brazil.
