Central America: Hydraulic Cement Trade Down 14%

Between January and September 2016, the value of trade in hydraulic cement between countries of the region amounted to $48 million, 14% less than the same period in 2015.

Variation in intraregional trade  
Considering the January-September period, between 2015 and 2016, the total value of hydraulic cement traded among Central American countries fell by 14%, going from $56 million, equivalent to 494 thousand tons in 2015, to $48 million, equivalent to 426 thousand tons traded for the period 2016.

Intraregional exports by country 
In the first nine months of 2016 the main exporter of hydraulic cement in Central America was Costa Rica, with $28 million, followed by El Salvador with $12 million, Honduras with $5 million, Nicaragua with $2 million and Guatemala with $1 million.

Main intraregional importer
During the first three quarters of 2016 Nicaragua was the main buyer of hydraulic cement from the other Central American countries, importing $39 million worth, of which $26 million was bought from Costa Rica and $12 million from El Salvador.

Central American Cement Trade Down 18%

September 2017

In 2016 intraregional trade in hydraulic cement totaled $59 million, 18% less than in 2015, and the main exporter is still Costa Rica.
