Variation of regional imports
Between 2015 and 2016, the volume of imported baked goods, pastry and biscuits grew by 4%, rising from 215 thousand tons in 2015 to 224 thousand tons last year.

The value of imports also rose by 4% going from $454 million in 2015 to $470 million the following year.

Imports by country
In 2016 the main importer of baked goods in Central America was Guatemala with $103 million, followed by Honduras with $102 million, Panama with $78 million, Costa Rica with $72 million, Nicaragua with $63 million and El Salvador with $53 million.

Price of imports
From January 2012 to December 2016, the average price per kilo of baked goods imported into countries in the region rose by 16%, going from $1.90 to $2.21.

Origin of imports
In 2016, 14% of the value imported from Central America came from the US, 7% from Mexico and 2% from Peru.
