In the hydrocarbons market there is fear that the United States will reimpose sanctions on Iran, a measure which could result in a decrease of 250 thousand to 500 thousand barrels of oil per day in its exports, against shipments of almost two to 2.2 million bpd at the beginning of 2016, when the sanctions were lifted. The issue of steel and aluminum tariffs, remain latent in the price of raw materials in countries such as Russia, China, Japan, Turkey and Taiwan, establishing a possible global trade war. Due to these global factors, the reference prices for the present fortnight show increases.

Price of a gallon of regular gasoline: Costa Rica $4.34, Nicaragua $3.96, Honduras $3.79, El Salvador $3.51, Guatemala $3.42 and Panama $3.25.

From a report by the Ministry of Economy of El Salvador:

According to the latest report from the Energy Information Administration Agency (EIA), gasoline stocks grew close to 1.2 million barrels at the end of the week, while distillates and diesel increased by approximately 1.8 million barrels, the increase recorded, confirms the favorable moment for refineries because the production rate has remained at 98.1%, providing sufficient supply to the market.

-Geopolitical events that took place in the month of May between the United States and Iran, led to an increase in the prices of petroleum products, which has been felt in the global market, due to the economic sanctions that focus on reducing the supply of exports to the international hydrocarbons market.

Price of a gallon of regular gasoline: Panama $2.34, El Salvador $2.48, Guatemala $2.44, Nicaragua and Honduras, $3.17 and Costa Rica, $3.77.

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy of El Salvador:

New variations with a downward trend which occurred in this week, are due to the significant drop in prices of derivatives and oil, which are caused by the results of the latest OPEC meeting, where member countries reached an agreement on a maximum ceiling for oil production and maintaining the overabundance of supply, coupled with the fact that Iran will join the market next year, once the West has removed the sanctions that it imposed sanctions over its nuclear program. These factors lead to oversupply causing a decline in reference prices.
