From a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy of El Salvador:

Under the uncertainty surrounding the behavior of international prices of petroleum products due to supply and demand, which has been the primary and determinant factor in variations in oil prices, the reference prices of liquid fuels in the current fortnight once again show mixed trends in gasoline and new low diesel prices due to the following factors:

The fluctuation in oil prices has its basis in the high accumulation of inventories in the United States and with good reason, since so far this year accumulation of oil in the American union amounts to 49 million barrels, which can be explained by the increased oil extraction activity in the United States.

On the other hand, an increase of oil imported by the US economy has been observed, this increase was supported by a greater amount bought from almost all of its suppliers in the energy sector, with the most noteworthy being the greater volumes purchased from Canada and Saudi Arabia and countries such as  Venezuela.

Furthermore, the perception that OPEC will make cuts will be insufficient to maintain oil prices and expectations of higher levels of oil production in light of an expected increase in demand for energy are changing expectations about the behavior of prices in the following months.
