Change in exports  
In 2016, the total value of imported metal ores from Central America fell by 34%, falling from $93 million in 2015 to $61 million in 2016.

In the same period the total volume exported fell by 41%, going from 1.2 million tons sold in 2015 to 712 million tons sold in 2016.

Exports by country
In 2016, Honduras was the largest exporter of metalliferous minerals, selling $39 million, followed by Guatemala with $21 million, and El Salvador and Nicaragua registered sales abroad worth less than one million. Costa Rica and Panama did not record exports.  

Destination of exports 
In 2016, 29% of the value exported from Central America was destined for South Korea, 24% for Mexico, 16% for Greece and 13% for China.

Between January and September 2016 the countries of the region exported 399 thousand tons of metalliferous minerals, led by Guatemala, with 375 thousand tons.

In 2015 Honduras and Guatemala exported ores such as zinc, nickel and other precious metals worth $47 million and $46 million respectively.

Figures from the Report on Import and Export of Ores, Slag and Ash in Central America, prepared by the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData.com show that in 2015 the countries in the region exported 1,207,000 tons of ores, slag and ash, equivalent in value to $93.4 million.
