Central America Buys More Fertilizers from Mexico

During the first nine months of 2018, companies in the region's countries imported from Mexico fertilizers for $70 million, 629% more than what was purchased in the same period of 2017.

Imports by country
From January to September 2018, the main Central American buyer of fertilizers to Mexico was Guatemala, with $52 million, followed by El Salvador, with $14 million, Costa Rica, with $3 million, Honduras, with one million dollars, Panama, with $700 thousand and Nicaragua, with $4 thousand.

Variation in regional imports
Between the first nine months of 2017 and the same period in 2018, imported value increased 629%, from $10 million to $70 million.

A considerable increase was also reported for the volume imported, since for the periods concerned it increased from 10.462 in 2017 to 161.617 in 2018, which is equivalent to an increase of 1.445%.

The growth in the purchases made to the North American country is mainly explained by the imports made by companies in Guatemala.

Price of Imported Fertilizers Continues to Fall

July 2018

The average price per kilo of fertilizers imported by the Central American countries dropped from $0.54 in January 2012 to $0.27 in March 2018, registering a 50% drop.

Fertilizers in Honduras: Purchases Recover in 2017

July 2018

After four years of registering reductions in purchases of fertilizer from abroad, in 2017 the country imported $146 million worth, 20% more than was reported in 2016.
