Central America: $4 billion for Residential Projects

In 2017, 437 environmental impact studies were presented in countries in the region in order to develop vertical and horizontal housing projects.

The interactive platform "Construction in Central America", compiled by the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData, includes an up to date list of public and private construction projects for which environmental impact studies (EIA) were submitted to the respective institutions in each country. 

In the region, Panama is where the largest amount of investment is concentrated, with an approximate $2.6 billion in residential and apartment building projects, corresponding to 166 environmental impact studies submitted between January and December 2017.

It is followed by Costa Rica, where 165 EIAs were submitted, which together make up an approximate investment of $702 million.

In Guatemala there were 74 studies for the construction of residential towers and single-family housing projects. The projects add up to an estimated investment of $399 million.

In Honduras, 8 studies were submitted for the construction of residential condominiums, which represent an approximate investment of $380 million.

In Nicaragua and El Salvador, 24 EIAs were submitted for housing construction, with an estimated investment of $16 million.
