Central America: $400 Million in Residential Construction

In the first quarter of 2019, 76 environmental impact studies were submitted to develop condominiums, apartment buildings and other housing projects in the countries of the region.

The interactive platform "Construction in Central America", compiled by the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData, includes an up to date list of public and private construction projects for which environmental impact studies (EIA) were submitted to the respective institutions of each country.

From January to March of this year, Panama is the country in the region that concentrated the largest investment, with approximately $171 million in apartment and horizontal residential projects corresponding to 29 EIAs.

It was followed by Guatemala, where 21 EIAs were presented, which together add up to an investment of approximately $86 million. Among the projects is the construction of an apartment complex consisting of four buildings, which will house 672 housing units.

In Costa Rica, 20 studies were presented for work on different types of residential projects that add up to a global investment of approximately $76 million. The most important development consists of the construction of a complex composed of 412 horizontal houses.

In El Salvador, five projects were reported, totaling an estimated investment of $56 million.
