Cargo Movement Keeps Rising

After in 2018, the cargo movement in Panama increased 2% over 2017, in the first five months of 2019 the volume transported totaled 35.4 million metric tons, 3% more than in the same period last year.

The latest report of the General Comptroller of the Republic details that only last May reported a 12% year-on-year increase in cargo movement, rising from 7 million metric tons in the fifth month of 2018 to 7.9 million metric tons in the same period of 2019.

With respect to cumulative cargo movement, between January and May 2018 and the same period in 2019 it increased from 34.3 million to 35.4 million, equivalent to a 3.2% increase.

For the periods concerned the movement of containers also registered a slight increase, in this case was 1%, going from 2.74 million TEUs to 2.78 million TEUs.

Cargo Movement Still Rising

January 2020

Between January and November 2019, the national port system continued to record positive numbers, as 85 thousand metric tons of cargo were mobilized, a figure 11% higher than that reported for the same period in 2018.

The General Comptroller of the Republic reported that only last November there was a 10% year-on-year increase in cargo movement, rising from 7.5 million metric tons in the eleventh month of 2018 to 8.2 million metric tons in the same period in 2019.

The latest report of the General Comptroller of the Republic details that only last August reported a 22% year-on-year increase in cargo movement, rising from 6.7 million metric tons in the eighth month of 2018 to 8.2 million metric tons in the same period of 2019.

Cargo Movement Grows Less in 2018

February 2019

After recording a 10% increase between 2016 and 2017, last year the movement of maritime cargo in Panama grew just 2% over the previous year.

The most recent figures of the General Comptroller of the Republic detail that during 2018 the movement of containers in the National Port System totaled 7 million TEUs, 1.7% more than the 6.89 million TEUs reported in 2017.

Maritime Cargo Movement Keeps Falling

November 2018

During the first nine months of the year, cargo movement in Panama totaled 61.8 million metric tons, 5% less than the figure reported for the same period in 2017.

The latest data from the General Comptroller detail that only last September was reported a year-on-year fall of 8% in cargo movement, declining from 7.6 million metric tons in the ninth month of 2017 to 7 million metric tons in the same period of 2018.
