Car Rentals: New Competitor in the Market

E.C. Rent a Car, part of Nicaraguan business group El Chele, invested $2 million to open its operations in Costa Rica.

The beginning of its operations in the Costa Rican market consists of the opening of a point of service near the Juan Santamaría airport, highway to Rio Segundo, Alajuela, which will begin with a 120-unit vehicle fleet.

In addition, E.C. Rent a Car reported that they acquired a plot of land in Liberia, Guanacaste, with the aim of opening a headquarters in June this year, which will offer car rental service and will also be dedicated to the sale of used cars in association with Grupo Q.

Juan Carlos Zúñiga, Strategic Director of Grupo El Chele, told Nacion.com that "... It's the first time we left Nicaragua and selected Costa Rica for being the country with the most tourism development in the region. We are very proud to open operations in this country and we appreciate the opportunity."

Zuñiga added that "... The goal is to reach 600 units of rental vehicles and five branches in Costa Rica within three years. In other countries such as Honduras, El Salvador and even the United States, we plan to open operations, but under the franchise model. Our challenge is to regionalize."

Another "Rent a Car" in Costa Rica

The company Enterprise Rent-A-Car has announced it will be investing $12 million in the purchase of 500 vehicles to begin providing a car hire service in the country.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car, through the ANC Group, which operates the franchises Alamo Rent a Car and National Car Rental, will provide a car rental service initially in five strategic points: Liberia, Belen, Lindora, and Juan Santamaría and Daniel Oduber airports.
