Nacion.com reports that according to a study of the Fundes organization, in 2018 in Costa Rica there were 2,224 traditional grocery stores, and that most of the stores operate up to 14 hours a day and 80% of their customers live within a 1.5 kilometer radius of their location.

In Costa Rica, digital platforms have been developed that gather information from grocery stores in order for supplier companies to access updated data on the type of consumer being served at sales points and their demographic environment.

Regarding the profile of consumers in Costa Rica, figures from CentralAmericaData indicate that between 14% and 17% of people who move from one point of the GAM to another during the day do so in an area of 31 km2, limited to the West by the Parque de la Sabana, to the North by Tibás, to the East by San Pedro and to the South by the Parque de la Paz, and surrounding areas.
