Businessmen Propose Plan for Economic Reactivation

The proposal presented by the union of Guatemalan businessmen to the Morales administration contemplates, among other things, reforming the judicial system and establishing a scheme of fiscal certainty.

After 2017 closed with a deterioration in business expectations, the Coordinating Committee of Agricultural, Commercial, Industrial and Financial Associations (Cacif), has proposed to the authorities of the Morales administration an action plan that includes four lines of work.

During the presentation of the plan, the president of the Cacif, Antonio Malouf, expressed his concern about the USA 's placement of Guatemala in the category 3 travel warning, "... regarding this, he highlighted the importance of working together so that tourism is not affected."

From a statement by the Cacif:

The Organized Business Sector, on the occasion of the beginning of 2018, brings to the country its message of confidence and optimism, with the conviction that this year it can offer opportunities for well-being and development. 

To achieve this purpose, it is necessary to work together on an agenda that promotes State issues, whose axes are: 

Employment, economic growth and opportunities for all 
Promoting infrastructure, legislative agenda to encourage investment and competitiveness, and a fiscal certainty scheme.

Governance and justice
Nominating new authorities, reforming the judicial system and that the actions initiated in the field of transparency complete their cycle.

Better public institutions

Reforming the civil service, rescuing key institutions (sports, mail, personal documentation) and efficient public procurement processes.

Build a better political system
Reforming the Electoral Law and Political Parties.
