Business Sector: Short Telephone Number Auction

On November 14, the Superintendence of Telecommunications of Guatemala will auction a short number, which is used by commercial entities to provide advertising services, information, assistance and services.

Monday, November 4, 2019

So far, 56 four-digit telephone numbers have been auctioned in the country and the next one to be made available to companies will be 1710, which may be used as a routing mask to an eight-digit number.

According to representatives of the Superintendence of Telecommunications (SIT), this type of numbers offers benefits "... to the entity that has it to strengthen the commercial and marketing strategies of the company, because being an easy number to remember it would position itself in a favorable way in the mind of its consumers." reports that "... The SIT assigns the four-digit numbering according to the National Numbering Plan that is used to access information and assistance services provided by commercial entities. One detail to highlight is that these numbers are a public resource and are not owned by the individuals or legal entities to which they are assigned. Consequently, they cannot be sold, leased or transferred to third parties".
