Tuesday, November 13, 2012

A statement from the Costa Rica Foreign Trade Promotion Office (PROCOMER) reads:

On 6 November the Costa Rica Foreign Trade Promotion Office (PROCOMER) released a study detailing the opportunities for marketing fresh produce in the Northeast Coast of the United States, this market combines features that encourage demand for this type product, in a post-recession economic environment.

On the one hand the population of this region has a per capita income above the national average of the United States, and even reaches quite high values in some regions such as the Manhattan district. Moreover, the Northeast Coast brings together a large group of immigrants, originating mainly from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Central America, which constitutes a nostalgia market driven by demand for some products included in the export supply of Costa Rica (and other Central American countries).

The products for which it has been determined there is potential can be classified into three categories, those which have a consolidated interest in exports, others which have a smaller or occasional participation, and others that are focused on the domestic market.
