Business Confidence Falls 4%

During the second quarter of the year in the Dominican Republic, the Business Climate Index decreased 4% compared to what was reported from January to March 2019.

The Business Climate Index dropped from 64.5 in January-March 2019 to 61.7 in April-June 2019. This decrease was because of a drop in the opinion of businessmen in the Dominican economy, in the branch, climate for investment and in their company, explains the report of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD).

The report states that in the case of the "... Industrial Confidence Index rose slightly from 57.9 to 58.1. The number of companies that export went from 70% in the first quarter to 79% in the second quarter 2019.

While the Industrial Confidence Index rose slightly from 57.9 to 58.1 in the same period, this implies an increase in confidence to increase industrial production in the near future.

When comparing the second quarter of 2018 with the second quarter of 2019, the information reveals that the Industrial Confidence Index experienced a decline, while the Business Climate Index registered an increase.

The confidence index of the trade union of Dominican industrialists fell again at the end of September, accumulating two consecutive quarters of decreases.

From the Industrial Confidence Index at the Association of Industrialists of the Dominican Republic:

The Industrial Confidence Index (ICI) continued its downward trend for a second consecutive quarter, going from 57.8 in the first quarter of 2017 to 54.7 in the second quarter (April-June 2017) and 50.5 in the third quarter of this year. (July-September 2017), which implies that confidence over increasing production in the near future continues to reduce. In addition, this performance is also below the performance seen in the same period in 2016, when it stood at 54.1.
