British Company Interested in Tocumen Expansion

The company Foster and Partners is interested in participating in work on the new terminal on the south side of Tocumen International Airport.

The company, which designed an airport in Hong Kong Airport and one in Shanghai has expressed interest in participating in the bidding process to be held next year, said the president of the Board of Tocumen, Frank de Lima, at the end of Panama Invest which took place in London and Paris.

An article in Laestrella.com.pa reports that “Additionally, during the event President Ricardo Martinelli placed a lot of emphasis on achieving a direct flight from London to Panama with British Airlines, ‘which is another theme which will encourage the arrival of British tourists to the country allowing Panama to be the point of connection for British people who want to travel in Latin America’, said De Lima".

Tocumen Airport to Keep Growing

Plans are afoot for Panama's main airport to become a terminal for transcontinental flights, counting on the arrival of Asian airlines.

Juan Carlos Pino, general manager of Tocumen, SA, said the airport is looking to expand routes and frequencies, and in the future, "we are counting on airlines from Asia" to transform the airport into a transcontinental hub.

Expansion of Tocumen Airport Begins

On Monday 12, the administration of Tocumen S.A. will order the start of the expansion project at the airport.

The project, which includes erecting the northern terminal, was awarded to Colombian consortium Aerotocumen, which comprises builders Conconcreto and Odinsa Group.
