Variation of Imports by Market
During the first seven months of 2020, companies in Honduras and Guatemala increased their purchases of infant formula for young children conditioned for retail sale from Mexican companies, reporting year-on-year variations of 33% and 23%, respectively. In El Salvador and Nicaragua the increases were 20% and 12%, in that order.

Costa Rica and Panama reduced their imports from Mexico, by registering decreases of 23% and 83%, respectively.

Central America: Purchases by Market
From January to July 2020, the main Central American buyer of baby milk from Mexico was Honduras, with $16 million, followed by Nicaragua, with $12 million, and Guatemala, with $11 million.

For the period in question, imports from Panama and El Salvador amounted to $7 million, in both cases, and those from Costa Rican companies to $4 million.

Central American companies buy less baby milk from Mexico
Between the first seven months of 2019 and the same period in 2020 the value imported by the countries of the region registered a 39% drop, from $93 million to $57 million.

This drop contrasts with the increase reported from January to July 2019, when the year-on-year variation was 103%.

In terms of sales, Central America is the main destination market for Mexican baby milk exports.
