Guatemalan Companies, Main Buyers
During 2020 the main importer of bakery products in Central America was Guatemala, with $121 million, followed by Honduras, with $89 million, Panama, with $76 million, El Salvador, with $72 million, Costa Rica, with $68 million and Nicaragua, with $59 million.

Last year, Salvadoran and Nicaraguan purchases were the only ones that increased in year on year terms, since the variations amounted to 16% and 3%, respectively.

Guatemalan imports decreased by 4%, Panamanian imports by 9%, Honduran imports by 10% and Costa Rican imports by 13%.

Purchase Prices
From January 2012 to December 2020, the average price per kilo of imported bakery products in the countries of the region has remained stable, ranging between $1.80 and $2.25.

U.S. and Mexico, Main Sellers
During 2020, 14% of the value imported from Central America came from the U.S., 7% from Mexico, 4% from Peru and 3% from Colombia.

Peru is the market of origin of imports that has grown the most in recent years, since in 2012 it represented 0.6% of the value purchased, and in 2020 the proportion rose to 4%.

Change in Regional Imports
Between 2019 and 2020 the imported volume of bakery, pastry and biscuit products reported a 3% drop, and in the case of imported value it registered a 4% fall, going from $479 million to $459 million.
