Imports by country
From January to June of this year, the main importer of bakery products in Central America was Guatemala, with $53 million, followed by Honduras, with $41 million, Panama, with $38 million, Nicaragua, with $33 million, Costa Rica, with $32 million and El Salvador, with $28 million.

Price of imports
The average price per kilo of imported bakery products in the countries of the region has been stabilized from January 2012 to June 2018, ranging from $1.80 to $2.25.

Origin of imports
During the first half of 2018, 15% of the value imported from Central America was from the U.S., 8% from Mexico and 5% from Peru.

The U.S. is the market of origin of imports that has grown the most in the first half of the last seven years, since in 2012 represented less than 11% of the value purchased, and in 2018 the percentage increased to 15%.

Variation in regional imports
Between the first six months of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the volume of imported bakery, pastry and biscuit products increased 2%, from 113,000 tons to 115,000 tons.

For the periods in question, the imported value recorded a decrease from $232 million to $226 million.
