Regarding the possibility of signing a trade agreement, Araujo told Prensalibre.com that "... what we want is to move towards a clear type of instrument, whether it is a classic FTA (Free Trade Agreement) agreement or another type of trade facilitation instrument. Hopefully it can be this year, we are in a hurry to get things done. To be able to start a negotiation this year would be excellent."

Araujo added that "... There is a very specific sector that is of interest to us to export to Guatemala such as beef (for which) we do not yet have access. Brazil is very competitive in that case, we have access to almost all countries in the world with a lot of competition and quality, that is a sector that would interest us a lot."
