Bottled water: Purchases Grow at 7%

During the first quarter of 2019, imports of bottled water in Central America totaled $7 million, 7% more than what was purchased in the same period of 2018.

Panamanian Companies, Main Buyers
From January to March of this year, the main importer of bottled water in Central America was Panama, with $3 million, followed by El Salvador, with one million, Costa Rica, with $800,000, Honduras and Guatemala, with $600,000 each, and Nicaragua with $400,000.

Variation in Regional Business
Between the first quarter of 2018 and the same period of 2019 the value of imported bottled water in Central America registered a 7% increase, going from $6.2 million to $6.6 million.

U.S.A. Main Seller
In the first three months of the year, 58% of the value imported into the region was from the U.S., 7% from Italy, 7% from France, 2% from Mexico and 2% from Spain.

The U.S.A. is the market origin of imports that has grown the most for the period in question of the last eight years, since in 2012 represented 28% of total Central American purchases and in 2019 that proportion rose to 58%.
