Panamanian Companies, Main Buyers
In the first three months of the year, the main importer of bottled water in Central America was Panama, with $5 million, followed by El Salvador, with $1.7 million, Costa Rica, with $1.6 million, Guatemala with $1.3 million, Honduras, with $1.1 million, and Nicaragua, with $800 thousand.

For the quarter in question, Nicaragua was the only market in the region that increased its imports, reporting a 2% year-on-year increase.

Guatemala reduced its purchases by 0.3%, Honduras by 3%, Costa Rica by 4%, El Salvador by 7% and Panama by 11%.

Regional Business Variation
Between January and June 2019 and the same period in 2020, the imported value of bottled water in Central America decreased 7%, going from $12.4 million to $11.6 million.

For the periods in question, Central American purchases from Mexican companies grew from $300 thousand to $600 thousand.

U.S. Main Seller
In the first nine months of the year, 56% of the value of imports in the region came from the U.S., 10% from Italy, 6% from France, 5% from Mexico, 2% from Spain and 1% from China.

The U.S. is the market of origin of imports that has grown the most for the period in question in recent years, since in 2012 it represented 32% of total Central American purchases and in 2020 that proportion rose to 56%.
