Beverages and Transport Pressure on Price Level

In November 2019, the Consumer Price Index in El Salvador reported a 0.12% monthly variation, explained in part by price increases in the alcoholic beverages and electricity, gas and other fuels divisions.

From the report of the General Directorate of Statistics and Census:

The behavior of the CPI with respect to October 2019, is mainly due to the increases of 0.33% in Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages and 0.39% in Transportation, with which the accumulated inflation for November 2019 is -0.11%, lower variation than the one registered in the same period of the previous year (0.91%).

The behavior of the Transport division is worth noting, due to its relative importance in the index. For November 2019, this division reports a 0.39% increase and a 0.045 incidence.

In addition, for November 2019, the five main products that influenced the monthly increase of the CPI are Air travel, tomatoes, green peppers, potatoes and chicken eggs.

Nicaragua: 3% y-o-y Inflation up to January 2019

During the first month of the year, the CPI registered a -0.25% variation, mainly because of the prices of the Recreation and Culture, and Food and non-alcoholic beverages divisions.

The January Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed a 0.25% monthly decrease, year-on-year inflation at 3.3%, while core year-on-year inflation was 3.88%, reported the Central Bank of Nicaragua.

Dominican Republic: 2.4% Inflation up to November 2018

During the eleventh month of the year, spending divisions reporting price increases included airfares and automobiles.

The Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD) reported that the consumer price index (CPI) in November 2018 registered a -0.35% variation with respect to October of this year, ranking the accumulated inflation at 1.39% for the first eleven months of 2018.

Nicaragua: Annual Inflation 5.2% up to July 2018

During the seventh month of the year, the CPI recorded a monthly variation of -0.08%, mainly explained by the prices of Food and non-alcoholic beverages.

From a report by the Central Bank of Nicaragua:

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed a decrease of 0.08 percent (0.39% in July 2017), mainly explained by the behavior of prices in some goods and services in the divisions of Food and non-alcoholic beverages (-1.04% ); and Communications (-0.02%); which together contributed 0.364 percentage points to the observed variation. In contrast, the Transportation division showed an increase of 1.45 percent (0.112pp). 

Nicaragua: Annual Inflation in July 2016 is 3,1%

In July, there was a monthly variation of 0.39%, mainly explained by the behavior of food and non-alcoholic beverages, and also Restaurants and hotels.

From a report by the Central Bank of Nicaragua:

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed a monthly variation of 0.39% (0.32% in July 2016), mainly due to the performance of prices in some goods and services in the categories of Food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.41% ); Restaurants and hotels (0.48%); and Recreation and culture (1.28%), which together contributed 0.244 percentage points to the variation observed. In contrast, the category of Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, showed a variation of -0.35 percent (-0.004pp). [GRAFICA caption = "Click to interact with graphics"]
