Nicaragua, Main Seller
During 2020, the region's leading exporter continued to be Nicaragua with $541.7 million, followed by Costa Rica with $111.3 million, Panama with $29.8 million, Honduras with $19.8 million and Guatemala with $5.9 million. El Salvador did not record significant exports.

For the period in question, Honduran sales increased 37.5% in year-on-year terms, Costa Rican sales increased 8.9% and Nicaraguan sales increased 3.7%. Guatemalan, Salvadoran and Panamanian exports reported declines of 28.5%, 93.6% and 1.6%, respectively.

Regional Sales Rising
Between 2019 and 2020, the value of fresh, refrigerated and frozen beef exports from Central America rose 4.35%, from $680 million to $709.5 million.

Regional sales to the U.S. increased by 5.18%, from $283.5 million to $298.2 million, and exports to El Salvador rose from $116.8 million to $120 million, an increase of 2.74%.

Destination of Exports
In the first nine months of 2020, 44% of the value exported from Central America was destined for the U.S., 11% for China, 8% for Puerto Rico, 7% for Mexico and 4% for Taiwan.

Export Prices
Between December 2019 and December 2020, the average price per kilogram exported of fresh, chilled and frozen beef from the region dropped from $4.61 to $4.45.

Beef: Sales in the Region Increase

April 2022

During the third quarter of 2021, an increase of 22 % was observed, reaching $640 million in exports of fresh, refrigerated and frozen beef, however, in volume it only represented a 2 percent increase, reaching 125,448 tons.

Beef: Central American Sales Up 16%

From January to September 2020, the countries of the region exported $527 million for beef, 16% more than what was registered in the same period of 2019, a rise that is explained by the behavior of Honduran, Panamanian, Costa Rican and Nicaraguan sales.

Beef: U.S. Business Increases

April 2019

From January to September 2018, countries in the region reported $422 million in beef sales abroad, and exports to the United States grew 16% over the same period in 2017.

Beef: Increasing Business with the US

September 2018

In the first quarter of the year, countries in the region reported $148 million in beef sales abroad, and sales to the United States increased by 25% compared to the same period in 2017.
