Guatemala, main buyer
In the first nine months of 2018, the main importer in Central America was Guatemala, with $86 million, followed by Costa Rica, with $74 million, Panama, with $61 million, El Salvador, with $60 million, Honduras, with $42 million and Nicaragua, with $36 million.

Variation in regional business
Between the first nine months of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the total value imported into Central America decreased slightly, from $362 million to $358 million.

For the periods concerned, purchases from Spanish companies reported an increase, in this case it was 21%, rising from $9.4 million to $11.4 million.

Origin of imports
From January to September 2018, 31% of the value imported from Central America was from Mexico, 19% from the U.S., 10% from Colombia and 3% from Spain.

For the months concerned in the last seven years, Colombia was the market of origin of imports that grew the most, given that in 2012 it represented 7% of total Central American purchases and in 2018 that proportion reached 10%.

Between January and March of this year, companies in Guatemala imported $27 million worth of beauty and personal hygiene items, 3% more than in the same period in 2017, and 56% came from Mexico and the United States.
