In the first three months of the year, Central American countries imported $116 million worth of beauty and personal care items, and $52 million were purchased by companies in Guatemala and Costa Rica.

Imports by country 
In the first quarter of 2018 the main importer in Central America was Guatemala, with $27 million, followed by Costa Rica, with $25 million, El Salvador, with $20 million, Panama, with $18 million, Honduras, with $14 million and Nicaragua, with $13 million. 

Variation of regional imports 
Between the first three months of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the total value imported into Central America fell by 3%, decreasing from $120 million to $116 million. 

This decrease contrasts with the growth reported for the quarter in question in 2016 and 2017, when imports increased by 8%, going from $111 million to $120 million.

Origin of imports 
From January to March 2018, 29% of the value imported into Central America came from Mexico, 19% from the US, 10% from Colombia and 3% from France.

In the first quarter of the last seven years, Colombia was the market of origin where imports grew the most, given that in 2012 it represented 8% of total Central American purchases and in 2018 that proportion reached 10%.
