Costa Rica, Main Exporter
From January to June 2021, the main exporter of fresh or dried bananas in Central America was Costa Rica with $566 million, followed by Guatemala with $449 million, Honduras with $135 million, Panama with $71 million, Nicaragua with $11 million and El Salvador with no movement.

For the period analyzed, the average price was $0.40/kg, representing $203.6 million for a total of 503,237 tons.

Variations by Country
For the second quarter of 2021, El Salvador recorded a positive variation in exports of 874.5%, Costa Rica only 0.3%, the rest of the countries showed decreases, Honduras 54.2%, Guatemala 4.3%, Nicaragua 3.2% and Panama 2.2%.

Regional Business Downward
Between the second half of 2021 and the same period of 2020, the value of banana exports fell by 12%, from $1,402.9 million to $1,232.3 million.
In the case of exports made by the region to the Netherlands decreased for the periods in question, going from $134.3 million to $115 million.

U.S., Main Buyer
In the first six months of 2021, 63% of the value exported from Central America was destined for the USA, 9% for the Netherlands, 6% for the United Kingdom and 3% for Italy.

The Netherlands is the destination market for Central American exports that has grown the most in the first six months of the last nine years, since in 2012 it represented less than 0.57% of sales and last year that proportion rose to 9%.
