Bakery and Biscuits: Honduras Buys More from El Salvador

In the first quarter of the year, Honduras imported $24 million worth of baked goods, confectionery and biscuit products, and purchases made from companies in El Salvador grew by 11% compared to the same period in 2017.

Variation of imports 
Between the first three months of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the import value of baked goods in Honduras registered a 10% drop, going from $26 million to $24 million.

However, for the periods in question, purchases made from El Salvador increased, rising from $8 million to $9 million.

Origin of imports 
During the first quarter of 2018, 38% of the value imported from Honduras came from El Salvador, 35% from Guatemala, 8% from the US, 8% from Costa Rica and 8% from Mexico.

The US is the market of origin of imports that has grown the most in the first quarter of the last seven years. In 2012 it represented 6% of the total import value, and this year the figure reached 8%.
