Avianca - Taca Launch New Frequent Flyer Program

The airlines will unify their frequent flyer programs into a single program called “LifeMiles."

Fabio Villegas, president of the company, announced that effective March 1st, the Taca Distancia program and Avianca´s AviancaPlus, will be unified as LifeMiles.

The executive said this is an important step in the process of integrating the two airlines "which currently operate as one company". “We are proud that after a year from signing our agreement, we can announce this vital step: the unified frequent flyer program," he said to

Avianca-Taca Purchases Aerogal

The group officially announced the purchase of 100% of Ecuadorian company Aerogal.

Gabriela Sommerfield, Aerogal’s president, announced that they will continue using the Aerogal brand.

As part of the negotiation process, Avianca acquired 10% of Taca Holdings Group.

The stock purchase is due to accounting and fiscal issues, reported TACA's President Roberto Kriete and Avianca's CEO Fabio Villegas.

"The alliance will require various steps. The first one is the regulatory process, which needs to be approved in El Salvador, United States, Colombia and other countries.

No further detail was known about this potential alliance between Colombia's largest air company and Central America's largest air transportation group, nor if the negotiation includes acquisitions or mergers.

Copa offers new reward scheme for frequent flyers

Continental Airlines and its Panama affiliate, Copa, presented Programa OnePass, a new loyalty product for frequent flyers.

Programa OnePass is being offered in conjunction with Mastercard and British-based bank HSBC.
