Aquaculture Sector Meeting in Guatemala

Suppliers of raw materials and services for aquaculture are being called on to take part in a symposium to be held in Antigua from June 6 to 8, 2018.

dir="ltr">The union of Guatemalan exporters is organizing the event, in which suppliers of the sector will be able to showcase their products and services to the more than 200 local and international participants that are expected to attend the activity.

In a statement, Agexport explained that "...The Symposium will feature more than 26 high-level national and international speakers that will address topics on: 1) Production, Markets and Trends; 2) Intensive Culture Technologies; 3) Diseases, Prevention and Control; 4) Genetics, Future of the Development of Aquaculture; and 5) Nutrition and Food, Key in the Profitability of Cultivation."

Improved Export Figures for Aquaculture and Fisheries

The incorporation of products with high added value such as shrimp covered with coconut, breaded shrimp and scampi, contributed to the fishing and aquaculture sector of Guatemala closing 2017 with exports worth over $200 million.

For 2018, growth of 7% is expected with respect to 2017 in the export of products from the Aquaculture and Fisheries sector, and work is planned on opening up new markets such as China, Canada, South Korea and Russia.

Good Prospects for the Shrimp Industry

The Honduran aquaculture industry recorded a 14% increase in shrimp exports in the first half compared to the same period in 2015, and attributed the result to an improvement in productivity.

Figures from the National Association of Aquaculture Producers in Honduras (Andah) indicate that between January and June the volume exported was 23.9 million pounds, up from the almost 21 million pounds exported in the same period in 2016.

Peru Promotes Aquaculture Production

With a bill to incentivize development of the sector and other measures to provide facilities to farmers, the government aims to boost the growth of aquaculture in the country.

From a statement issued by the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promotion Office (Procomer):

The Ministry of Production of Peru announced a series of measures aimed at laying the foundations for sustainable development and launching aquaculture within the framework of the implementation of the National Plan for Productive Diversification.

Meeting of Cruise Operators in El Salvador

The Central Cruise Summit 2015 will be held in El Salvador, from 13 to 15 May, where it is expected that 15 corporations from the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association will be involved.

The Salvadoran Chamber of Tourism (CASATUR) hopes to have the participation of 30 union members who will be publicizing various tour packages offered by shipping lines.
