Analysis of Milk Quality in Chiriqui

Government authorities and producers are considering to establish a laboratory in the Panamanian province of Chiriqui to analyze the quality of milk produced in the area.

The proposal is being developed jointly by the Cooperative of Milk Producers of Chiriqui and agriculture authorities. The goal of milk producers is acquire the technology needed to analyze and improve production processes necessary to raise the final quality of the product.

".... It is an approach (with the authorities) which is important and necessary, if we consider that the dairy sector is one of the few areas of the primary sector which recorded growth in recent years," said Alvaro Martinez, president of the Milk Producers Cooperative of Chiriqui. "

The regional director of the Ministry of Agricultural Development in Chiriqui, Rolando Guerrero, told that "... this is the continuation of work done by members of the Committee of Agricultural Affairs at the National Assembly during their recent visit to the province Chiriqui, where farmers called for the implementation of this laboratory which would allow them to verify the quality of the milk they produce. He added that consultations are still in process with other actors. "

Nicaragua Inaugurates Diagnostic Laboratory

The country has a new veterinary diagnostic and food microbiology laboratory.
