Costa Rica to be linked by inter-oceanic Internet ring

Costa Rica will be linked to the inter-oceanic data transmission ring in September.

The ring will link the cables that currently connect Costa Rica to the Internet – Mayo and Arcas across the Atlantic as well as Global Connection across the Pacific. The Global Connection link is due to be established at the end of next month.

The "Border to Border" Fiber Optic Network is ready and it will avoid service interruptions and increase speed.

The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) announced that the fiber optic network is already in operation. It "has a ring design in each area of the country to avoid service disruption if there is a rupture or loss of connection and to increase connection capacity or speed."

Global Crossing access will boost Costa Rica's cybernauts

Costa Rica's Internet capacity is expected to increase by at least 35 percent from July when it will gain access to Global Crossing's Pacific cable connection.

The new access will permit an additional 200,000 connections.
Costa Rica is already connected to Internet by the Arcos trans-Atlantic cable and the Maya cable that runs from Florida to Panama.
