Aluminum: Trade Between El Salvador and Guatemala

In the first quarter of the year El Salvador imported $7 million worth of aluminum and its manufactured goods from Guatemala, 10% more than in the same period in 2017.

Variation of imports  
Between the first three months in 2017 and the same period in 2018 the import value of aluminum in El Salvador increased from $20 million to $21 million, which is equivalent to a 4% increase. 

For the periods in question, the value imported from Guatemala grew by 10%, going from $5.9 million to $6.5 million, and from China by 39%, increasing from $3.5 million to $4.9 million.

Origin of imports 
During the first quarter of 2018, 31% of the value imported from El Salvador came from Guatemala, 23% from China, 8% from Mexico, 8% from Australia and 7% from the USA. 

China is the market of origin of imports that has grown the most in the first quarter of the last seven years. In 2012 it represented 7% of the total import value, and this year the figure reached 23%.

In the first quarter of the year, Costa Rica imported $8 million worth of aluminum and its manufactures from the Asian country, 47% more than in the same period in 2017.
