Guatemalan companies, main buyers
From January to September 2018, the main importer of aluminum and its manufactures in the region was Guatemala with $106 million, followed by Costa Rica with $94 million, Panama with $85 million, El Salvador with $73 million, Honduras with $55 million and Nicaragua with $26 million.

Main sellers
During the first nine months of 2018, 20% of the value imported by Central America was from China, 14% from the U.S., 12% from Belgium, 8% from Mexico and 4% from Brazil.

For the period from January to September of the last seven years, China is the market of origin of purchases that has grown the most, since in 2012 it represented 10% of the total value of regional purchases, and in 2018 that proportion rose to 20%.

Variation in regional business
Between January and September 2017 and the same period in 2018, the volume imported of aluminum and its manufactures registered a 15% increase, rising from 119 thousand tons to 136 thousand tons.

For the periods concerned, the imported value increased slightly, in this case by 0.88%, from $454 million in 2017 to $458 million in 2018.

August 2018

During the first quarter of the year, countries in the region purchased a total of $143 million worth of aluminum and its manufactures, and 48% was imported by companies in Guatemala and Costa Rica.
